The Activator Method

The Activator Method Chiropractic Technique is a chiropractic treatment method and device created by Arlan Fuhr as an alternative to manual manipulation of the spine or extremity joints. The device is categorized as a mechanical force manual assisted (MFMA) instrument which is generally regarded as a softer chiropractic treatment technique.

The activator method chiropractic technique (AMCT) involves having the patient lie in a prone position and comparing the functional leg lengths. Often one leg will seem to be slightly shorter than the other. The chiropractor then carries out a series of tests such as pressing on a vertebra. If the shorter leg seems to become even shorter, that is taken as a sign that the problem is located at that vertebra. The chiropractor treats problems found in this way moving progressively along the spine in the direction from the feet towards the head.

Physical characteristics of the activator device

The activator is a small handheld spring-loaded instrument which delivers a small impulse to the spine. It was found to give off no more than 0.3 J of kinetic energy in a 3-millisecond pulse. The aim is to produce enough force to move the vertebrae but not enough to cause injury.

Six Keys to Good Health

The only way to ensure good health is by making healthy lifestyle choices. Phillip J. Longman, writer for the Washington Monthly, points out that the eight leading causes of death (aside from those caused iatrogenically) are due to people’s lifestyle choices.  Heart disease, cancer, stroke, pulmonary diseases, accidents, pneumonia/influenza, diabetes, and suicide are all linked to behavioral choices and living conditions. The Institute of Medicine states that diet, smoking, alcohol use, and sedentary lifestyle contribute to approximately half of all deaths in this country, while those behaviors lead to about 75% of all cancer deaths. With these facts so evident, isn’t it a wonder that so much money is spent combating the effects of faulty habits as opposed to teaching good ones?

If good health is high on your list of values (and I imagine if you have gotten this far, it must have some importance to you) then you will be delighted to know that you can reach your highest level of health (Editor’s Note: this differs from person to person,
